The Montessori method is a child-centered educational approach that incorporates self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play. In this approach, children are able to make creative choices in their learning, while teacher and classroom activities guide the process.  

Ignite your passion for teaching with the benefits of applying Montessori methods to your elementary education graduate degree. This program rejects rigid, outdated teaching methods in favor of innovative practices formulated to help children overcome systemic racism, learning disorders, multilingual needs, and other education obstacles. Graduates will leave with both a master's in education and certification in Montessori education from the American Montessori Society (AMS). Specifically, you will learn to:

• Implement hands-on methods of teaching designed with a child’s physical and psychological development to foster creativity, collaboration, and confidence
• Apply the Montessori philosophy to create culturally relevant learning environments for elementary students
• Use real-world classroom experience from a nine-month applied practicum studied within a Montessori education setting
• Engage in critical self-reflection to build anti-bias/anti-racist teaching strategies
• Facilitate learning objectives for all types of thinkers, including students with dyslexia, multilingual learners, and students with exceptionalities

St. Kate’s offers dynamic professional development opportunities for Montessori teachers throughout the year. The program is open to students of all genders.

Format: On campus (Summer), online (Fall/Spring)

Credits* required: 32 (6-9 option), 51 (6-12 option)

Tuition per credit: $600 (2023-24 rate)

Total tuition: $19,200 (6-9 option), $30,600 (6-12 option)
